new content fund balance

$0

How does this work?

Every month I set aside half of the income I receive—from Patreon patrons and one-off donations—to fund new routes and ride guides. This money accumulates—the fund balance is updated every month—until I receive a submission that I want to publish, whereupon the contributor will receive whatever is in the fund. The new ride guide will be available to paying Patreon patrons for three months, before it goes on this website, where it will be forever free to the public. So if you want to see more routes and ride guides on ACV, and to access the ride guides early, you can become a patron here.

submission guidelines

I’m looking for original routes, written up as ride guides. To get a feel for what I’m after, I would suggest browsing through existing ride guides. There are two general formats you could follow: a summary format (example here and here) or more of a day-by-day/narrative format, which will also have some sections that summarise key information (example here and here).

Think about what you would tell someone who wanted to ride the route. What key information would they would need to stay safe and have a great time? Perhaps the odd personal reflection may add some colour to the guide, but it’s not a memoir.

I generally focus on routes that can be done in a weekend/long weekend/week off, but you will notice that there are some shorter routes and longer routes, so don’t be afraid to pitch those too.

If you can provide a route in a part of the state that isn’t already well-represented that’s a bonus. I’d like ACV to live up to its name and have a good spread of routes in most regions.

Nice photos are another bonus, but don’t be discouraged if your photos are not amazing quality. The route and the information are the most valuable things.

If you’re concerned about wasting your time creating something I might reject, feel free to pitch an idea before you’ve written it up.

Further details

There are 9 file upload fields. This is for a text document (Microsoft Word (docx) or Open Document Format (odt)) plus 8 images (jpeg or png). If you’re having trouble converting your text document format or something, feel free to copy and paste the text into the ‘message’ field. Please keep image files below 1MB so I don’t have to resize them.

You will need to include a link to a ridewithGPS page of the route, either in the text document or the ‘message’ field. On the RidewithGPS page, please add some points of interest (POI’s) for things like campsites, general stores, toilets, drinking water, wineries/breweries/restaurants/cafes/pubs, or anything else you feel is of interest to a potential rider. This doesn’t have to exhaustive but at least a handful will be helpful. POI’s benefit from some short descriptions based on your personal experience or research, eg: “small clearing by the river, no facilities,” or “this winery is known for its Shiraz and offers cottage style accommodation.”

Thank you for your submission!
